Less than 20 minutes away lies Sam Rayburn Reservoir, the largest lake that is completely contained within the state of Texas. Over 100,000 acres of surface water at average capacity the lake is the top destination spot for water activities in Deep East Texas. Bass fisherman regard the lake as one of the top largemouth bass fisheries in the country. The reservoir stretches across five counties including Angelina, Nacogdoches, Jasper, Sabine and San Augustine. With plenty of boat access spread around the nearly 700 miles of shoreline.

If you have never fished Sam Rayburn you really should add it to your bucket list. The lake record for largemouth bass is over 16-lbs. The lake record for catfish is over 80-lbs. Crappie fishermen will find large slabs up to 17-inches. With the shear size of the lake it is a good idea to visit one of the local marinas for some tips on where to fish this enormous lake.
Lake Nacogdoches
While not nearly as large, Lake Nacogdoches offers all of the typical lake and boating activities people love. About 30 miles from the RV Park the lake offers over 2,000 acres of surface water to explore and have fun in. Lake Nacogdoches is a solid largemouth bass fishery and offers some excellent catfishing opportunities.
There are two parks on the lakeside with amenities for food, fun and games. You will find areas for picnicking with picnic tables, bbq grills and pavilions. Activities include disc golf and an ADA compliant fishing dock. Plenty of access to the water via boat rams and swimming areas as well.

The lake record for largemouth bass is over 15-lbs and was caught in 2020. In 2003 a nearly 18-lb channel catfish stands as the lake record. Crappie are abundant and features both Black and White Crappie up to 15-inches.
